Books I'm reading

During the busy school year it's hard to find time to read quality education books.

I often read articles and notes that I receive from seminars and meetings but I am always on the look out for a good book about how to be a better teacher.

I've enjoyed getting into these two books recently.

Holiday reading
  • Boys and girls learn differently by Micheal Curian with Kathy Stevens (2011, published by Jossey-Bass).
The best part about this book is the comparison table that clearly shows the difference between girls and boys from prebirth to high school. The differences are astounding in terms of growth, language and development. It gives clear information about the brain differences and how boys and girls learn best with targeted chapters for the kindergarten, elementary, middle and high school. Great for parents as well!

  • Literacy for the 21st century by Gail E. Tompkins (2010, Pearson Education).
This was my text book from university and has includes lots of quality literacy resources (word lists, assessment, ideas etc) for your classroom. It's probably one I'll aim to read every holiday as it is so practical.

What other books should I read? What would you recommend?
